Mahindra XUV 700 MX Base Variant – A Powerful SUV That Redefines Value!

Hi guys, welcome back to the channel.

So, this is the Mahindra XUV 7O. Now we all know it’s a very popular vehicle. It sells a lot. But if you are planning to buy its base variant, then today’s article is for you because today we have the base variant MX.

Now what features do you get in this MX variant? And is this variant a good variant to buy?

Today we will talk about it in detail.

Mahindra XUV 700 MX Price & Variants

Let’s start with the price.

The Mahindra XUV 7O MX starts from ₹14.49 lakh and goes up to ₹15.49 lakh ex-showroom.

It is available only in a seven-seater configuration.

Both petrol and diesel options are offered, but only with a manual transmission — no automatic option here.

So, if you need an automatic, you’ll have to go for the higher variants.

Exterior Design and Looks

In terms of looks — the XUV 700 MX looks great.

If you see this car from a distance, you won’t feel much difference between this and the top-end variant.

So, looks-wise, it’s impressive.

At the front, you get a gloss black grille with a silver finish Mahindra emblem.

There are no DRLs, but you do get halogen headlamps, which can be upgraded later if you want.

No fog lamps are offered since this is the base variant — and that’s fine considering the price point.

You still get sharp cuts, creases, and cladding, giving it a bold SUV stance.

From a distance, it looks premium and proportionate.

Powerful Engine Options

Moving to the engine bay — the XUV 700 MX comes with two engine options.

1. 2.0L Turbo Petrol Engine

Produces 200 PS power and 380 Nm torque

Available only with a 6-speed manual transmission

2. 2.2L Diesel Engine

Produces 155 PS power and 360 Nm torque

Again, manual only, but tuned lower than the higher variants

Even the base model gives you both petrol and diesel choices — a big advantage.

Both engines are refined and powerful, making it one of the most performance-oriented SUVs in this price range.

The hood feels heavy and well-built. There’s insulation provided, though hydraulic struts would have been nice.

Overall, the engine bay looks solid and premium.

Side Profile and Wheels

From the side profile too, there are minimal differences compared to higher trims.

If you add alloy wheels, the SUV will almost look identical to the top-end variants.

You get 17-inch steel wheels with silver wheel covers (stored in the boot).

Tyres are sized 235/65 R17, which are large and provide great stance and road presence.

Cladding runs all around, enhancing the SUV look.

The ORVMs are electrically adjustable but manually foldable (no auto-fold).

Chrome door handles and turn indicators look stylish.

Up top, you get roof rails and a standard antenna.

Rear Profile and Tail Design

At the rear too, the differences are minimal.

Even when parked next to top models, the MX doesn’t look out of place.

You get LED tail lamps, high mount stop lamp, and XUV 700 badging.

No rear camera, but rear parking sensors are included.

With minor upgrades like a shark fin antenna or alloy wheels, the rear will look even better.

Boot Space and Practicality

Let’s talk about the boot.

Being a seven-seater, the third row is strictly for kids — adults won’t be comfortable here.

With all rows up, the boot space is limited, but you can fold the third row (60:40 split) to get a huge cargo area.

In the third row, you get blower controls, 12V socket, cup holders, and air vents — amenities are well managed for kids.

Glass area is generous, giving an airy feel.

The toolkit is located below the boot floor.

Overall, practicality is impressive considering the variant level.

Interior Design and Feel

Opening the door, you are greeted by a dual-tone black and beige interior.

Materials are hard plastics but of good quality.

You get door pockets, functional window controls, and a wide glass area.

The front seat is adjusted to a 6-ft tall person, and still there’s ample legroom in the second row.

Second Row Comfort and Space

In the second row, passengers get adjustable headrests for side passengers, ISOFIX mounts, and fabric upholstery with white stitching.

Access to the third row is easy — just fold the seat forward.

The seat comfort is impressive —

  • excellent under-thigh support,
  • good headroom, and
  • a reclining function for added comfort.

The flat floor makes it easy for three adults to sit comfortably.

You also get

  • rear AC vents,
  • Type-C charging port,
  • LED cabin light, and
  • a center armrest with two cup holders.

Even in the base variant, these comfort features make the XUV 700 MX stand out.

Key Fob and Basic Controls

The key fob feels premium considering it’s the base model —

you get

  • the new Mahindra logo,
  • flip key, and
  • lock/unlock/boot release buttons.

Both keys have all controls — a nice touch by Mahindra.

The door handles are unique in design — some might find them slightly inconvenient, but they look stylish and modern.

Driver’s Area and Dashboard Layout

The dashboard design gives no “base model” feeling.

The layout, color scheme, and finish all feel premium.

You get

  • electrically adjustable ORVMs,
  • height-adjustable driver seat, and illuminated key slot for convenience.
  • All four power windows are standard.

Instrument Cluster and Display

The instrument cluster features a 7-inch display that shows:

  • Digital speedometer
  • Vehicle info (power & torque)
  • Navigation
  • Drive info
  • Alerts and settings

Controls are on the right side of the steering column, which can be a bit tricky to use while driving, but it’s still a solid feature set for a base trim.

Infotainment System and Features

In the center console, you get an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen.

It supports Android Auto only — no Apple CarPlay.

Mahindra might assume that base-variant buyers use Android phones (their assumption, not ours!).

The UI is smooth, responsive, and identical to higher trims.

Below that, you get

  • manual AC controls,
  • hazard button,
  • USB port, and
  • storage area.

Gearbox and Central Console

The 6-speed manual gearbox feels precise and solid.

You also get a handbrake, center armrest with storage, and a dual-compartment glovebox.

The IRVM is manually dimming, there’s a ticket holder, and LED cabin lights — all great inclusions.

Build Quality and Feel

Considering it’s the base variant, the fit and finish are impressive.

No rough edges, and the materials feel sturdy.

The steering wheel feels chunky and comfortable to hold, with multimedia controls and silver finish accents.

No leather wrap, but it still feels premium.

Safety Features

In terms of safety, the XUV 700 MX offers:

  • Dual front airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • High structural strength (Mahindra’s forte)

Even without electronic aids like traction control or hill assist, the SUV feels safe and stable on the road.

Mahindra’s reputation for safety adds to the confidence.

Performance, Ride & Handling

The turbo petrol engine offers thrilling performance with 200 PS — unmatched in this segment.

The diesel is torquey and efficient, perfect for highway drives.

Ride comfort is balanced — suspension absorbs bumps well, and the SUV feels planted even at higher speeds.

Noise insulation is decent, though better damping would make it even quieter.

Verdict: Should You Buy the XUV 700 MX?

So, should you buy the XUV 700 MX base variant?

According to me, yes — if you’re looking for:

  • A powerful engine
  • A large-sized SUV
  • Spacious interiors
  • 7-seater practicality
  • Good value under ₹20 lakh

Then the Mahindra XUV 700 MX is a fantastic choice.

If you compare it with compact SUVs in this price range, you won’t get this much space or power.

If you look at Creta or Seltos, you’ll get more features, but not this level of performance and size.

So, if your priority is a big, powerful, safe, and spacious SUV, and you’re okay with basic features, this MX variant is absolutely worth buying.

Final Thoughts

You get a strong engine lineup, solid build, spacious 7-seater cabin, and Mahindra’s reliability —

all at an excellent starting price.
